Dustnado Since it was the 3rd of the July, we didn't encounter much traffic on the way to the airport.  We'd heard rumors that getting to the airport might be hard, but we lucked out! Matt continued to take pictures as I drove.

The Plains

Over the next three hours, the terrain changed drastically.  When we entered the great plains, we spotted some dustnadoes. I guess these are what people call dust devils. It made me wonder if they had Tasmania Devils in Washington state.

Since we were doing pretty good on time and we needed to stretch our legs, we decided to stop at the Columbia River Scenic Overlook  in Grant County, Washington. What an amazing view!  I was so glad we stopped.

Matt and the Columbia River

Sarah & Matt Columbia River Washington State It was just before 3 PM when we got back in the car. We were only 144 miles away from the airport. Since we were on track to get to the airport with time to spare, Matt took over driving for awhile.

As we got closer to the airport, we stopped and filled the car with gas. Since we'd be on the plane, we also changed our clothes. While Matt was inside, I rounded up the last of the trash and made sure our suitcases were ready.  I didn't want to waste time at the car return.

According to our time receipt from EZ Rent-A-Car, it was 5:55 when they finished checking me in. We'd driven the Camry 1,807 miles over the course of the last three days. The total charge for car rental was $187.44 and it was worth every last penny!

Time to check our suitcase and grab a bite to eat.
