After Israel and Henri left, it was only a couple of minutes before I was taken back to see a nurse. She took my temperature and told me that I had a fever. I asked if it was a result of my injury and she told me that it wasn't. So, I was coming down with something. Like I need something else to contend with right now. She looked at my right ankle. "What happened?"

I thought about this for a minute. How best to describe the incident that caused my injury? I fell down? I fell down, but I didn't fall down like most people. It doesn't really describe what happened. "I sort of fell out of the sky."

"What? Were you like skydiving?" She joked. Ha ha...very funny. She had no clue. I was hours away from the nearest drop zone. Imagine her surprised when I replied, "Well, as a matter of fact, I was." She quickly lost her smile and began apologizing. "I was just kidding." "I'm so sorry." She went on.

Comparing my ankles side by side, it was clear that my right ankle needed attention. She asked about my left ankle. I told her not to worry about it because I was sure that it was just sprained. I didn't want them to x-ray it. I couldn't afford to have two broken ankles! They sent me back to x-ray.

The technician took x-rays and gave me the thumbs up. He said he thought it wasn't broken, but the x-rays would need to be read by the doctor. They took me to my own little private emergency waiting room. Not really private; you know the type with sheets for walls. You can't see the other people, but you can hear all about their medical problems.

I saw the x-ray technician enter the room with my x-rays. From across the room, he gave me a "thumbs down". BROKEN! I'm broken. NO! I looked at my ankle. It was gone! It appeared that my leg had extended downward and I no longer had an ankle. The circumference of my ankle was now equivalent to the circumference of my lower leg.

Carolyn entered. She had driven down with Jim to pick up my car. He was parking and she stopped in to see how I was doing. Not good! Carolyn didn't stay long. While I was waiting, Jim kept me company. It wasn't long before the nurse came to give me a temporary cast for my right ankle and a pair of crutches.

As we drove home, I felt so incredibly sad. How would I manage everything? Jim said he'd stay home from work the following day. When we got home, he made a comfy spot on the sofa for me. Since we have a powder room, I wouldn't have to go upstairs. I could just crutch around the corner.

As I was drifting off to sleep, I kept thinking about freefall. I really wanted to watch my video. I had such a great time making my turns! I'm so thankful that I got the video. I wanted to share it with him. Freefall was awesome! I understood Nate's continued enthusiasm for the sport. I got it! Unfortunately, our living room has been converted to DVD only. So, the video would have to wait.

It was nice to be home.
