We kicked off Kim's birthday celebration weekend with a trip to DC for Filp Orley's show.  Very entertaining!  Unfortunately, I didn’t get in bed until after 2:00 AM.  There wasn't going to be much time to sleep.  We needed to leave our house no later than 10:30 to get to the drop zone on time. Let the sleepless night begin!

  • 3:15 Why am I still awake? I was excited and exhausted.
  • 3:20 How can it only be 5 minutes? I closed my eyes and tried to imagine freefall.
  • 4:27  I was falling off a building. My heart was pounding so hard it woke me up.
  • 4:56 Go to sleep Sarah!
  • 5:30 Was I sleeping? I think I was sleeping.
  • 7:03 This is pointless.

I got out of bed and opened the curtains.  Ugh!  It was cloudy and looked like it would rain at any minute.  This wasn’t part of the plan!  It can’t rain today!  I’d gone to great lengths to make sure everything was arranged.  Lisa (Joe’s wife) was going to watch the kids for the day.  They had driven all the way from Frostburg, MD so that Joe could go and jump with us.

At 8:00 AM, I called the hangar to find out what we should do.  Ned answered the phone and said that the weather wasn’t looking great.  He suggested that I call back before we left Maryland.  A few hours passed and I called him again.  He told me that we could come and do training, but he recommended that we reschedule our jumps.  Oh no!

Fortunately, I was able to get a last massage appointment for Kim!  This gave her something to do while we got the surprise party ready. It went off without a hitch!
