This morning, we woke up with an amazing day ahead of us.  We got up and set on our way to VA!  We decided to get our marriage license in Hanover, VA near the settlement attorney's office.

Since I've been married before, I made sure to bring along a certified copy of my divorce papers.  I also brought my passport, driver's license, and certificate of birth.  I wanted to make sure that I had every document they could possibly ask me to present.

The paperwork for the marriage license consisted of two questionnaires.  One for the groom, and one for the bride.  They were identical with the exception of the word "Bride" or "Groom" printed at the top.  The questions were basic, name, address, parents' names, etc.  We completed the paperwork and presented it to the clerk.

I asked her if she wanted to see my driver's license.  She said no.  I offered my passport and the birth certificate.  She told me that she didn't need to see anything I had brought along because she was going to make us take an Oath.  This made me laugh!  So, you can go to VA and get married and they will trust you to be truthful about your name, etc.  However, they will make you take an oath and state that you aren't  brother and sister, but it is okay to marry your first cousin in Virginia.   Hmmmmm.

The license cost $30.  Matt spent an extra $2.50 for a certificate copy of our marriage certificate.  We won't get this until after the wedding.  One more thing to cross off the list!
