Since I was doing another self-supervised jump, I was allowed to exit however I wanted. One of the coaches, Dan Wayland, would put me out of the plane (basically he was making sure I didn't leave too early or do anything stupid). Prior to this jump, I'd been doing poised and diving exits.  Since Dan was supervising my exit, I asked him for suggestions on how I should exit. He suggested that I climb out and then do as many front flips as I could.  Once I got stable, I'd run through the requirements for my check dive.  I was jumping a Navigator 240 canopy. Here's my log book entry:

7/9/05: Jump 24 - Skydive Orange, VA - AFF: Self-Supervised - Dan Wayland's Flipping Exit & Practice Check Dive - Floating exit. Flipped forward 1 1/2 times.  Got hung up.  Got Stable. Ck Alt. practice touch. Did 360. Ck Alt. Back flip. Ck Alt. Practice Forward motion. Ck Alt. Practice tracking. Wave off & pulled.  Line twists.  Got back to DZ. Flared Late. Dan Wayland D-22316

I must have had a bad body position because I opened with some line twists.  I had plenty of altitude to clear them.  When I was coming in for my landing, I flared a little late and ended up on my knees.  GRRRRR...so very frustrating!
