Neither one of us was interested in wasting time at a restaurant.  Matt looked for a Chick-fil-A along our route.  He found one about 40 minutes from the drop zone in Cartersville, GA.  While Matt was inside using the restroom, I went through the drive through and ordered our food.  After we had our food, I decided to use the restroom too.  According to Google Maps, we were 574 miles or roughly 8 hours from home. Our plan:  Drive until we got tired and stop for the night.

At some point, Matt drifted off to sleep and I went through the trip in my head.  When we left our home on Thursday, we didn't image that we'd be able to get Alabama and Georgia in the same day.  We figured we'd be jumping on Saturday, but it was only Friday evening and we were already finished.  If our experience at Skydive Georgia had been better, we might have elected to stay overnight.  Either way, we knew that we didn't want to be driving on Sunday! It was after all Thanksgiving weekend!  One of the worst weekends to be driving.

Matt didn't sleep long.  Once he was up, we stopped for some drinks and gas.  So far, we had been very lucky with the traffic - no accidents and not many cars.  I had driven for just over five hours and Matt offered to take over.  At 10:45 PM, we were only 3:30 hours from home.  Did it make sense to stop at a hotel?  It would cost $100.  If we just sucked it up and did a little speeding, we could get home by 2:00 AM. We decided to just drive home.

Around 1, I offered to take over driving. I told Matt I was happy to drive, but if I did he wasn't allowed to go to sleep until we got home.  I was tired and didn't want to risk an accident.  We started talking about music and the best artist(bands) of all time. I found Rolling Stones "100 Greatest Artists" bios and read some them to Matt.  It was interesting because the entries for each artist was written by someone else that was famous.  For example, (#15) Stevie Wonder was written by Elton John.  It was a great way to pass the time and it was very informative.

When we got home, we didn't unload the car.  We had quick showers and went right to bed - two states closer to our goal!
