At the airport, we cleaned out the car and turned in the keys. We'd driven 392 miles in Alaska. Sadly, we did not see any bears, moose, or other note worthy critters with the exception of ONE eagle.

Once we were in the building, we took turns getting cleaned up in the restroom. It was nice to have on clothes that weren't sweaty or dusty. We checked our large bag and headed to security.

For some reason, Matt had a special ticket that allowed him to bypass part of the security process. I wasn't quite as lucky as him. Security pulled my carry-on for inspection.  I'm starting to think that they aren't even worried about my gear, but they are curious because they don't see skydiving rigs every day.

After we were through security, we grabbed dinner at Humpty's Great Alaska Alehouse. I ordered the salmon and it was delicious, but the service was very slow. Fortunately, we had plenty of time before our flight and we were near our gate. Just before we got on the plane, we both took some Tylenol PM - hoping to sleep on the overnight flight.

Our plane was huge - just like the kind you see in the movies. I am pretty sure it was a Boeing 767-300 capable of holding 261 passengers. Fortunately, our flight was not full and the other passenger in our middle row moved and we had three seats to share between the two of us.

The flight departed from Anchorage at 7:46 PM and was supposed to land at 6:45 AM in Atlanta - a flight time of roughly 7 hours. Matt fell sleep quickly, but I wasn't so lucky. Our seats were not nearly as comfortable as they were on the other Delta planes we'd taken. I was up and down and in and out of sleep.

When we landed in Atlanta, it was almost 8:00 AM. At some point during our travels, we were diverted around a storm. Once we were inside the terminal, we found our gate and looked for breakfast (Dunkin Donuts). At 9:30, we boarded our last flight. Matt was alseep before the plane took off and slept the entire time. We were on the ground in Richmond before 11:30 AM.

It was great to be home!
