Before we left the hotel, we had free breakfast. I didn't like the eggs, but the rest was yummy. It was 6:44 when we drove through McDonald's to get drinks. We had plenty of bottled water with us, but I wanted some caffeine.

While I was driving, Matt looked for other things to do along our route. Just over the border of South Dakota and not far out of the way, was a place called The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD. This site has one of the largest concentrations of mammoth remains in the world with a current count of 61. The site is an ACTIVE paleontological dig site and they are still uncovering remains. We decided to check it out.

The cost for admission was $11.00 a person. After a 10 minute video about the history of the site, they distributed headsets and we went on a 30 minute walking tour with a guide. As we walked along, he identified various remains and told us other interesting facts.

While we were on our tour, we saw a number of people working the site.

The Mammoth Site

Our visit to The Mammoth Site was less than an hour - it was only 10:45. What else could we do along the way?
