Public Service Announcement: Don't get confused when you are driving! Volcano Road, HI-11 and Mamalahoa Highway are all the same road.

Along the route to Rainbow Falls, we drove past the entrance for the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory and Gift Shop. We also saw drove past the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and the Nani Mau Tropical Gardens. Our drive took just under an hour.

Rainbow Falls are easily accessible via Wailuku River State Park and there is no charge to access them and parking is free! Woo hoo!

While we were at the bottom of the falls, Matt accidentally dropped his sunglasses over the rail! Fortunately, this time they were just a few feet away and easily accessible.

Rainbow Falls

If you look carefully at the top of the falls, you can see some tiny people. Rainbow falls is about 80 feet tall and 100 feet wide and is well known for rainbows. However,  we didn't see any!

Matt, Price and I took the path to the top of the falls, but dad stayed down at the bottom.

Matt was thinking about climbing out on to the rocks with the other people, but it was already 2:30.

What a fun day so far! We'd explored caves, checked out the KÄ«lauea Caldera, walked through a Rainforest, and the Thurston Lava Tube, and hung out at Rainbow Falls. It was time to head back to the condo for an early dinner. We needed to be at Sea Quest by 7:00 to check in for our manta ray swim!
