Rig Cover

Traveling with our rigs can be very stressful. Earlier this year, we purchased suitcases that met the airline criteria to be considered as a carry-on in lieu of needing to be checked. When we traveled to Seattle, we discovered that our bags would not fit into the overhead bins of small aircraft.

We did not want to run into this problem again and we didn't want to check our rigs. So, I pulled out the gear bags. Both rigs fit inside either gear bag, but it's very uncomfortable to carry my rig this way because it weighs over 30 lbs.

I wanted to wear my rig on my back, but I needed to protect my handles and pins.

I asked a friend of mine where she got her rig sleeve and she sent me a link. The product looked pretty cool, but it was over $100.00 for my rig and wasn't exactly what I wanted. It didn't cover the three rings.

Rig Cover

Since I had absolutely nothing else to do with my time this week (hahahahaha), I decided to make my own. I don't have much sewing experience, but I figured it was worth a try. Did I mention I am a little crazy? I really had no idea where to start.

I went to JoAnn fabrics and bought some material and some other items. My cost was about $40.00. At some point, I had to make a second trip and spent another $12.00 to buy more fabric and some Velcro.

Although it isn't perfect and it sort of looks like pajamas, I am very happy with end results. Everything is covered, and I can wear my rig like a backpack. I even engineered a way to keep my leg straps pulled up so they weren't hanging down by my sides.

Making the rig cover was a rewarding experience, but it took way too long! Over 20 hours - time that I should have spent working on finding a Texas solution and getting things in order for our trip.
