When we got up on Saturday morning, we were very excited! It was going to be a busy day.  We were starting with the trip to the Kaumana Caves and we'd be ending the day with our Sea Quest Manta Ray swim.

Matt headed up to the Panilo Greens sales office to book a fishing trip for Price and dad. While he was gone, I put together sandwiches and snacks for everyone. At some point during the day, we'd get some cold drinks and I could supplement our sunblock supply since I lost the one for my face at Papakolea Green Sand Beach.

It didn't take long for Matt to come back from the office with great news! Dad finally got the $100 credit! Price and Dad would be going out on the fishing charter on Sunday morning. The bad news - they'd have to get up super early because they needed to be at the dock no later than 6:00 AM.

After the four of us piled in the car, we used Saddle road to get back over to the caves. It was right around 9:30 when we arrived.

The cave entrance looked less scary in the day light. After you descend a stair case, there are two similar entrances - one on the left and one on the right.. Pictured below is the entrance to the right.

Kaumana Cave Opening

Matt and Price entered the cave on the left and set off on a great adventure. They found an opening under a big rock and crawled through to the other side.

My dad and I stayed behind. After I took dad's picture at the entrance of the cave, I convinced him to go in a little further and took some more photos. At first I was apprehensive because of my claustrophobia, but the cave was huge!

It was dark, but my iPhone did okay. Inside the cave, it was wide open and there weren't any animals, or creepy crawlies just some moisture on the rocks.

Kaumana Cave - The view out

Sarah in Kaumana CavesIt was pretty cool looking out from inside.

Daddy wasn't really interested in hanging out in the cave and so we went back up the steps. That's when Matt called to say he was in the jungle! Apparently, the cave extended about 1,000 ft and it opened up in the middle of the rain forest. Cool.

He said it would take a while get back. That's when I got a great idea! I could go in the cave and hide. Since Matt knows how much I don't like enclosed places, he will never expect at thing.

As I entered the cave, a young man was coming out. His father and grandmother were inside waiting for his two brothers to come out. The two boys emerged from the hole and I asked if they had seen Matt and Price. They had not.

After the family left, it was a little eerie sitting in the dark by myself. But it was for a good cause! I love to scare Matt! Soon thereafter, I could hear voices and they were coming closer.

When they came out of the cave, I didn't do anything too drastic because I didn't want to upset Price. I just said, "Hi." Matt was definitely surprised to see me!

According to Matt, once they passed through the narrow spot, the rest of the way was wide open! The Kaumana Caves were a big hit! Matt gave the caves two thumbs up!
